Lynda Tomkins
Lynda was nine years old when she first began calisthenics as a Junior at Noble Park Calisthenics Club. Lynda was involved with Noble Park for eighteen years – as a competitor, an assistant and a member of the committee. Lynda retired from competitive calisthenics to co-found Kingston Calisthenics College in 2000.
Of all the founding members, Lynda has undertaken the largest variety of duties. Lynda has assisted with the Tinies, Sub Juniors and Intermediates sections, was the newsletter editor for seven years, the club president for two years and the Tinies costume manager for 1 year. Lynda now holds the position of Fundraising Manager.
In 1990, Lynda won her first gold medal at Ballarat. She describes this as one of her most memorable moments in calisthenics. Her greatest achievement as a competitor came in 1998, winning the aggregate at Ballarat as a Senior, after a decade of competing there.
Since co-founding Kingston Calisthenics College, Lynda finds great joy in passing on her knowledge and love of the sport, and in watching the achievements and progress of the Kingston girls.
Lynda returned to competitive calisthenics in 2007, to help establish the Seniors section at Kingston. While this is not very good for her knees, it is wonderful for the club!
Lynda works full time as a packer in a distribution warehouse. |
